Minister of Local Government, Ron Lemieux
Lobby efforts to change rules pertaining to sewage ejectors may be paying off. Changes introduced by the province last September called for a ban on sewage ejectors and existing ones to be decommissioned when the land is sold. Ron Lemieux, Minister of Local Government, was in Brandon yesterday speaking at a municipal officials seminar. He says Conservation Minister Bill Blaikie has assured him the regulation is being reviewed and changes are coming. Lemieux adds Blaikie did not give specifics but indicated an announcement would be coming soon. He says many people in rural areas have been holding off selling their properties until they get that word. The cost of decommissioning sewage ejectors and converting sewage systems is estimated to be in the range of 20 thousand dollars per home.
